Βούλει τοίνυν τοῦ μὲν καλοῦ ἀφαιροῦμεν τὸ φαινόμενον, ἵνα μήποτε λάθῃ σχηματισαμένη πρὸς αὐτὸ ἡ ἡδονή· τῆς δὲ ἡδονῆς οὐκ ἔτι; Τὸ μὲν γὰρ καλόν, τίμιον ὄν, κατὰ τὴν αὐτοῦ φύσιν εἶναι δεῖ καλόν, ἵνα καὶ ἐράσμιον ᾖ· τῇ δὲ ἡδονῇ ἀπόχρη φαίνεσθαι, καὶ μὴ οὔσῃ· τῇ γὰρ τοῦ πεπονθότος εὐφροσύνῃ λαμβάνουσα τὴν σύστασιν, οὐ τῇ αὑτῆς φύσει, ἱκανῶς ἕξει, ἐὰν τὸ δοκεῖν ὑπάρχῃ, αὐτῇ καὶ μὴ οὔσῃ.
