ταῦτα μὲν εἰκότως ἄν τις τῆς εὐτολμίας θαυμάσειεν ἐκ πολλοῦ τοῦ περιόντος καταφρονητικῶς ἔχοντα θανάτου καὶ ὡς ἐπ’ ἀθανασίαν αὐτὸν ἱέμενα καὶ ἀπνευστὶ θέοντα· τὸν δὲ τί προσῆκεν ἐπαινεῖν ὡς ἐγχειρητὴν κεκαινουργημένης πράξεως, ἣν καὶ ἰδιῶται καὶ βασιλεῖς καὶ ὅλα ἔθνη δρῶσιν ἐν καιροῖς;
