ἐκ πολυπαιδίας μὲν οὖν ἕνα προέσθαι θεῷ καθάπερ ἀπαρχήν τινα τέκνων παράδοξον οὐδέν, ἔχοντα τὰς ἐπὶ τοῖς ζῶσιν ἡδονὰς οὐ μικρὰ παραμύθια καὶ μειλίγματα τῆς ἐπὶ τῷ σφαγιασθέντι λύπης· ὃν δὲ μόνον τις ἔσχεν ἀγαπητὸν διδοὺς λόγου παντὸς μεῖζον ἔργον διαπράττεται, μηδὲν οἰκειότητι χαριζόμενος, ἀλλ’ ὅλῃ τῇ ῥοπῇ πρὸς τὸ θεοφιλὲς ταλαντεύων.
