ὁ δὲ τοῦ Δάν, εἰκών τις ὢν ἐρρωμενεστάτης ἀρετῆς καρτερίας, ἵππον, τὸ πάθους καὶ κακίας σύμβολον, δήξεται, διότι σωφροσύνη τὴν τούτων καθαίρεσίν τε καὶ φθορὰν μελετᾷ. δηχθέντων μέντοι καὶ ὀκλασάντων „ὁ ἱππεὺς“ φησί „πεσεῖται“.
