φθάνειν μὲν γὰρ τὰ καλὰ δρῶντα δεῖ, τὰ δὲ αἰσχρὰ μέλλειν [καὶ] ἔμπαλιν, κἀκείνοις μὲν προσέρχεσθαι, τούτων δὲ ὑστερίζειν καὶ μακρὸν ὅσον ἀπολείπεσθαι· ᾧ γὰρ τῶν ἁμαρτημάτων ἐγγίνεται καὶ παθῶν ὑστερίζειν, ἄνοσος διατελεῖ. τὴν γοῦν „παρὰ τοῦ θεοῦ σωτηρίαν περιμένειν“ φησὶν αὐτόν, ἵνα ἐφ’ ὅσον ἀπελείφθη τοῦ ἀδικεῖν, ἐπὶ τοσοῦτον τῷ δικαιοπραγεῖν ἐπιδράμῃ.
