εἷς δέ τις τῶν ἀφρόνων ᾐσθημένος, εἰς ὅσην κακοδαιμονίας ὑπερβολὴν ἄγει ἡ τοῦ διαμαρτάνειν ἐκεχειρία, μετὰ παρρησίας εἶπε· „μείζων ἡ αἰτία μου τοῦ ἀφεθῆναι“ (Gen. 4, 13). παγχάλεπον γὰρ ἀχαλίνωτον ἐαθῆναι ψυχὴν ἀτίθασον οὖσαν ἐξ ἑαυτῆς, ἣν μόλις ἡνίαις μετ’ ἐπανατάσεως μαστίγων ἔστι κατασχόντα πραῧναι.
