γυμνάζει γὰρ ἡμᾶς ἡ μὲν διὰ τῶν αἰσθήσεων καὶ τῶν τοῦ ἀλόγου μερῶν πάντων καταφρονητικῶς ἔχειν ὧν ἀλογεῖν ἄξιον, δόξης καὶ πλούτου καὶ ἡδονῆς, ἃ περίβλεπτα καὶ περιμάχητα ὁ πολὺς καὶ ἀγελαῖος ἀνθρώπων ὄχλος κρίνει δεδεκασμέναις μὲν ἀκοαῖς, δεδεκασμένῳ δὲ καὶ τῷ ἄλλῳ τῶν αἰσθήσεων δικαστηρίῳ·
