φασὶ δέ τινες καὶ τετάρτην αἰτίαν οὐκ ἀπῳδὸν ἀλλ’ ἐγγυτάτω τῆς ἀληθείας· ἐπειδὴ γὰρ ἔδει πίστιν ἐγγενέσθαι ταῖς διανοίαις περὶ τοῦ μὴ εὑρήματα ἀνθρώπου τοὺς νόμους ἀλλὰ θεοῦ χρησμοὺς σαφεστάτους εἶναι, πορρωτάτω τῶν πόλεων ἀπήγαγε τὸ ἔθνος εἰς ἐρήμην βαθεῖαν καὶ ἄγονον οὐ μόνον ἡμέρων καρπῶν ἀλλὰ καὶ ποτίμου ὕδατος, ἵν’,
