πάντες δέ εἰσιν εὐνοῦχοι, ἐπειδὴ ὁ φιλήδονος ἄγονός ἐστι τῶν ἀναγκαιοτάτων, σωφροσύνης, αἰδοῦς, ἐγκρατείας, δικαιοσύνης, ἁπάσης ἀρετῆς· οὐδὲν γὰρ οὕτως ἐχθρὸν ἄλλο ἄλλῳ, ὡς ἀρετῇ ἡδονή, δι’ ἣν ἀλογοῦσιν οἱ πολλοὶ ὧν μόνον ἄξιον πεφροντικέναι, ταῖς ἀκαθέκτοις ἐπιθυμίαις χαριζόμενοι καὶ οἷς ἂν προστάττωσιν εἴκοντες.
