"εἴπατε, ζῇ ἢ τέθνηκεν; εἰ μὲν οὐκ ἔστι, δείξατέ μοι τὸν νεκρόν, ἵν’ ἐπιδακρύσας τῷ πτώματι λωφήσω τῆς συμφορᾶς· ἰδὼν κείμενον παρηγορηθήσομαι. τί καὶ νεκρῷ μνησικακοῦμεν; πρὸς τοὺς ἐκποδὼν φθόνος οὐδεὶς φύεται. εἰ δὲ ζῇ, ποῖ γῆς ἀπελήλυθε; φυλάττεται παρὰ τίσιν; οὐ γὰρ δὴ κἀγὼ καθάπερ ἐκεῖνος ἐν ὑποψίαις εἰμί, ὡς ἀπιστεῖσθαι.“
