Τρεῖς ἤδη χαρακτῆρας τοῦ πολιτικοῦ διετύπωσε, τόν τε ποιμενικὸν καὶ τὸν οἰκονομικὸν καὶ τὸν καρτερικόν. περὶ μὲν οὖν τῶν προτέρων εἴρηται δυεῖν, ὁ δ’ ἐγκρατὴς οὐχ ἧττον ἐκείνων πρὸς πολιτείαν συντείνει.
