ὅταν γὰρ μὴ δῶρα, μὴ παρακλήσεις, μὴ τιμῶν ἔρως, μὴ ἀρχῆς ἐπιθυμία, μὴ ἀλαζονεία, μὴ ὁ τοῦ δοκεῖν ἵμερος, μὴ ἀκολασία, μὴ ἀνανδρία, μὴ ἀδικία, μηδὲν ἄλλο τῶν ὅσα ἐκ πάθους ἢ κακίας ὑπάγηται, τίνος ἔτι φοβηθήσομαι δεσποτείαν; ἢ δῆλον ὅτι τὴν ἀπ’ ἀνθρώπων;
