ὥσπερ οὖν τὰ κατὰ γῆν σπέρματα καὶ φυτὰ ποτιζόμενα αὔξεται καὶ βλαστάνει καὶ πρὸς καρπῶν γενέσεις εὐτοκεῖ, στερόμενα δὲ ἐπιρροῆς ἀφαυαίνεται, οὕτως ἡ ψυχή, καθάπερ φαίνεται, ὅταν νάματι ποτίμῳ σοφίας ἄρδηται, βλαστάνει τε καὶ ἐπιδίδωσι πρὸς τὸ βέλτιον. ποτισμὸς δὲ ὁ μέν ἐστι ποτίζοντος, ὁ δ’ αὖ ποτιζομένου.
