τὸν δ’ ἀρχιερέα παντὸς πένθους ὑπεξείλετο· καὶ μήποτ’ εἰκότως· τὰς μὲν γὰρ τῶν ἄλλων ἱερέων ὑπηρεσίας ἀνθ’ ἑτέρων ἕτεροι λειτουργεῖν δύνανται, ὡς, κἂν πενθῶσί τινες, μηδὲν τῶν ἐξ ἔθους ὑστερίζειν, τὰς δὲ τοῦ ἀρχιερέως οὐδενὶ δρᾶν ἐφεῖται. παρ’ ἣν αἰτίαν ἀμίαντος ἀεὶ διατελείτω μὴ προσαπτόμενος νεκροῦ σώματος, ὅπως τὰς ὑπὲρ τοῦ ἔθνους εὐχὰς καὶ θυσίας ἕτοιμος ὢν ἐν καιροῖς τοῖς προσήκουσιν ἀκωλύτως ἐπιτελῇ.
