Εὔδοξος μὲν γὰρ ὁ Κνίδιος τοὺς ἐν Ἀκαδημίᾳ λόγους ἱκανῶς ἐκφροντίσας ὅμως ἐνεγράφη τοῖς σοφισταῖς ἐπὶ τῷ κόσμῳ τῆς ἀπαγγελίας καὶ τῷ σχεδιάζειν εὖ, καὶ ἠξιοῦτο τῆς τῶν σοφιστῶν ἐπωνυμίας καθʼ Ἑλλήσποντον καὶ Προποντίδα κατά τε· Μέμφιν καὶ τὴν ὑπὲρ Μέμφιν Αἴγυπτον, ἣν Αἰθιοπία τε ὁρίζει καὶ τῶν ἐκείνῃ σοφῶν οἱ Γυμνοί.
