τὰ ζῷα ταῦτά ἐϲτι μὲν κατὰ χρόαν ψαμμώδη, κατὰ δὲ μέγεθοϲ 1 παλαιϲτῶν τριῶν, ἀγόμενα εἰϲ μικρὸν καὶ μείουρον. ἕρπει δὲ ἐπ’ εὐθεῖαν καὶ βραδέωϲ, καθ’ ὅλον δὲ τὸ ϲῶμα διακεκόϲμηται ϲτιγμαῖϲ πολλαῖϲ λευκαῖϲ καὶ μελαίναιϲ. λέγεται δὲ καὶ πεφολιδῶϲθαι τραχυτάταιϲ φολίϲιν, ἐν δὲ τῇ πορείᾳ ἦχον ἐξακούεϲθαι ϲυριγμοῦ παραπλήϲιον.
