ὁ δὲ λεγόμενοϲ ϲὴψ κατὰ μὲν τὸ μέγεθοϲ εὺρίϲκεται πηχῶν δύο, 1 ἐκ πάχουϲ δὲ ἐπὶ λεπτὸν ἦκται. ἔϲτι δὲ οὐτοϲ εὐθύποροϲ καὶ βραδύποροϲ, τὴν δὲ κεφαλὴν ἔχει πλατεῖαν, ϲτόμα δὲ ἄποξυ· κατέρρανται δὲ καθ’ ὅλον τὸ ϲῶμα ϲτιγμαῖϲ λευκαῖϲ. ϲυμβαίνει δὲ τοῖϲ ὑπὸ τούτου δηχθεῖϲιν ἀπὸ μὲν τῶν τρήϲεων ἐμφανῶν οὐϲῶν αἰμα ἐκκρίνεϲθαι, καὶ μετ’ ὀλίγον ίχῶρα δυϲώδη, οἴδημά τε καὶ ἄλγημα νωθρόν.
