1 τὸ ζῷον τοῦτό ἐϲτι μὲν μεγέθει παλαιϲτῶν τριῶν, ὀξυκέφαλον δὲ καὶ κατὰ χρόαν ξανθόν. δύναμιν δὲ ἔχει μεγίϲτην ὑπὲρ τὰ ἅλλα ἑρπετὰ πάντα, ὡϲ μηδὲ ἕν αὐτοῦ τὸν ϲυριγμὸν ὑπομένειν, ἀλλὰ κἂν εἰϲ τροφὴν ἢ ποτόν τινα τῶν ζψων ἐπείγηται καὶ αἴϲθηται τῆϲ τοῦ θηρίου περὶ τὸν τόπον παρουϲίαϲ, πάλιν πορεύεται καὶ ἀναχωρεῖ, ὅθεν καὶ ἐλήλυθεν, μηδὲ τῆϲ ἀναγκαίαϲ πρὸϲ ζωὴν τροφῆϲ φροντίϲαντα· τηλικαύτην ἔχει δύναμιν.
