τούτοις μέντοι τοῖς προτερήμασιν ἐπήρθη Σκηπίων μάχῃ κριθῆναι καὶ καταλιπὼν χωρὶς μὲν Ἀφράνιον, χωρὶς δὲ Ἰόβαν διʼ ὀλίγου στρατοπεδεύοντας, αὐτὸς ἐτείχιζεν ὑπὲρ λίμνης ἔρυμα τῷ στρατοπέδῳ περὶ πόλιν Θάψον, ὡς εἴη πᾶσιν ἐπὶ τὴν μάχην ὁρμητήριον καὶ καταφυγή.
