1. Θερμώδων ποταμός ἐστι Σκυθίας, τὴν προσηγορίαν εἰληφὼς ἀπὸ τοῦ συγκυρήματος ἐκαλεῖτο δὲ πρότερον Κρύσταλλος· ἐκεῖνος γὰρ καὶ θέρους πήσσεται, τῆς τοποθεσίας τὴν τοιαύτην ἰδέαν διεξαγούσης· μετωνομάσθη δὲ διʼ αἰτίαν τοιαύτην.
