388. φρονοῦσ᾿ ἐγώ: τὴν ἀσχημοσύνην φρονοῦσα. Μ. ταῦτ᾿ οὖν ἐπειδή: ἐπειδή τοίνυν τὴν φύσιν ἑκάστου πράγματος ἐτύγχανον γινώσκουσα, καὶ πόθεν οἱ ἄνθρωποι τὸν βίον ἑαυτῶν διαφθείρουσιν, ἐνόμιζον τοῦτο, ὅτι οὐκ ἔστι μοι οὐδεμία πρόφασις οὕτως ἰσχυρὰ, οὐδὲ δέλεαρ τοιοῦτον, ὅπερ ἐκ τῶν φρενῶν καὶ τῆς τοσαύτης σωφροσύνης μεταστήσειέ με εἰς πορνείαν. οὐκ ἀπεικότως δὲ τοῦτό φησιν, ἀλλὰ πρὸς πλείονα δεῖξιν τοῦ μὴ μόνον κατὰ φύσιν, ἀλλὰ καὶ παῤ ἐλπίδα νοσεῖν ἔρωτα.
