396. νουθετεῖν: ὑβρίζειν. B. 398. τὴν ἄνοιαν: τὸν ἔρωτα. M. 399. τῷ σωφρονεῖν: προενοησάμην τὴν ἔκκρουσιν τοῦ νοὸς νικῶσα διὰ τῆς σωφροσύνης. B. νικῶσα: αὐτήν. B. 400. τρίτον δ᾿ ἐπειδή: ἐπειδὴ τοῖς δυσὶ τρόποις οὐδὲν ἤνυον πρὸς ἐγκράτειαν τοῦ ἔρωτος, οὔτε τῇ σιωπῇ, οὔτε τῇ σωφροσύνῃ, ἔδοξέ μοι ἀποθανεῖν. 402. οὐδεὶς ἀντερεῖ: ὡς οὐ καλῶς βουλευθεῖσιν ἐν οἷς ἐσκεψάμην ἢ σιωπᾶν καὶ σωφρονεῖν, ἢ ἀποθανεῖν. 405. τὴν νόσον: τὸν ἔρωτα.
