μῶλυς δὲ βραδὺς καὶ νωθής, ἢ μογερός, ἢ νωχελὴς καὶ ἁπαλός, ὁ γεγηρακὼς ὄφις καὶ μόλις βαίνων· ἢ ὁ ταχὺς καὶ μολῶν. ἄμεινον δὲ τὸ πρῶτον. ἰστέον δὲ ὡς οἱ ὄφεις ἐν τῷ χειμῶνι τυφλοὶ γίνονται ὑπὸ τοῦ παγετοῦ, ἐν δὲ τῷ ἔαρι γευσάμενοι μαλάθρου πάλιν ὀξυδορκοῦσι καὶ ἀναβλέπουσι καὶ τὸ λοιπὸν φεύγοντες τοὺς φωλεοὺς αὑτῶν εἰς ὑλώδεις ἔρχονται τόπους, ὃ δὴ καὶ Νίκανδρος νῦν λέγει.
