εἴγε μέν: δύο ὄφεις συνουσιάζοντας κελεύει λαβόντας ἑψῆσαι. χύτρῳ δὲ τῇ χύτρᾳ. διὰ τί δὲ συνουσιάζοντας; διότι ἐν τῷ καιρῷ τῆς συνουσίας βρωμοῦσιν. ἀποστρέφονται δὲ φύσει τὸν ἑαυτῶν βρῶμον. κνώδαλα δὲ κυρίως μὲν τὰ θαλάσσια παρὰ τὸ κινεῖσθαι ἐν τῇ ἁλί· καταχρηστικῶς δὲ τοὺς ὄφεις λέγει. φησὶ δὲ Ὀππιανὸς κνώδαλα τὰ τῶν θηρίων γένη, ἐξ οὗ καὶ μνείαν ποιεῖται ὁ Νίκανδρος περὶ κνωδάλων καὶ λέγει οἷον αἱμορροίδας καὶ κεράστας καὶ τριχοφόρους, ἤτοι χοίρους.
