ἠὲ σύγ’ ἐγκεφάλου: ἢ σύ, φησι, λάβε τὰς πέριξ τοῦ ἐγκεφάλου ἀραιὰς μήνιγγας τῆς κατοικίδος ὄρνιθος. γράφεται καὶ σμήριγγας οὕτω δὲ λέγουσι τὰς τρίχας τὰς ἐπὶ τῶν μηρῶν καὶ τοῦ τραχήλου, ἔνιοι δὲ τὰς ἐπὶ τοῦ μετώπου, ἄλλοι τὸν ὑμένα λέγουσι τὸν περιτρέχοντα τὸν ἐγκέφαλον. ἔστι δὲ οὑτος τραχύτερος περιέχων τὴν ἀρχὴν τὴν ἐν τῷ νωτιαίῳ μυελῷ. ὅτι δὲ ὁ ἐγκέφαλος τῆς ὄρνιθος εἰς τοὺς ὀφιοδήκτους δῆλον. φησὶ καὶ Πέτριχος ἐν Οφιακοῖς.
