ῥαιβοῖσι δὲ τοῖς ἐπικαμπέσιν ἢ τοῖς σκαμβοῖς ἢ τοῖς πλαγίως περιπατοῦσιν. ὁ μὲν ἄρρην σκορπίος ἀεὶ κατάστικτον ἔχει τὴν κοιλίαν καὶ τὰς χηλὰς καὶ τὸ κέντρον. παντὸς δὲ σκορπίου τὸ κέντρον τετρημένον ἐστίν, ἔχον διπλόην τινὰ δυσόρατον διὰ λεπτότητα, δι’ ἧς τὸν ἰοβόλον ἰχῶρα προίησιν· ὃς σιάλοις ἀνθρώπου ῥαινόμενος ἀσθενὴς καὶ ναρκώδης ὁρᾶται. γίνονται δὲ οἱ σκορπίοι οὐ μόνον ἐξ ἀλλήλων ἀλλὰ καὶ ἀπὸ σεσημμένων ξύλων καὶ παγούρων.
