Κνίδην λέγει τὴν ἀκαλήφην, εἴρηται δ’ ἀμφότερα διὰ τὸ κνήθειν· καὶ γὰρ ἡ ακαλήφη παρὰ τὸ κάλφεσθαι· ἔστι δὲ καὶ θαλάσσιον ζῶον ἀκαλήφη λεγόμενον· φησὶ γοῦν ὅτι καὶ κνίδης σπέρμα σὺν πεπέρει λεάνας διὰ τὸ σφόδρα θερμαντικὸν δίδου χρῆσθαι.
