Σκλήρ’ ἀπὸ περσείης· γράφεται καὶ ξήρ’ ἀπὸ περσείης· ἐν τοῖς τῶν περσεῶν λέπεσιν· οἱ πολλοὶ ὀστέον καλοῦσιν· ἐστὶ δ’ ὅμοιον καρύῳ· Θεόφραστος οὖν ἐν τῷ τετάρτῳ τῶν φυτικῶν (II. P. IV, 2, § 5) κάρυον αὐτὸ προσηγόρευσε, κάρυα δὲ λέγονται ὅλα τὰ ξυλῶδες λέπος ἔχοντα. Περσείης δ′ εἶπε τὸ ἀρχαῖον ἀπὸ τοῦ Θεοδοσιακοῦ Νικάνδρου μεταγεγραμμένον.
