ἀρεταῖσιν ἱκάνων: ἀντὶ τοῦ οὐκ ἔστι τούτων ἀρετὴ περαιτέρω, οὐδὲ τῶν στηλῶν τῶν Ἡρακλείων γῆ περαιτέρω. τοῦτο δὲ φανερόν ἐστι καὶ σοφοῖς καὶ οὐ σοφοῖς· ὁ μὲν γὰρ σοφὸς εἰδὼς οὐκ ἐθελήσει περᾶν, ὁ δὲ ἄφρων, κἂν τολμήσῃ, τῆς ἐλπίδος στερήσεται· ὥστε πᾶσιν ἀδύνατον εἶναι.
