Οἶδα ὅτι δύναται· οὐ βιάζομαι δὲ τῇ γνώμῃ. Ἔστι θεὸς ὃς δύναται ἡμᾶς ἐξελέσθαι, καὶ ἐὰν μή, γνωστόν σοι ἔστω, βασιλεῦ, ὅτι τοῖς θεοῖς σου οὐ λατρεύομεν καὶ τῇ εἰκόνι τῇ χρυσῇ ᾗ ἔστησας οὐ προσκυνοῦμεν. Οὕτως οὐκ ἐπείρασαν οἱ δίκαιοι τὸν θεόν, ἀλλ’ ἐπενεχθεῖσαν τὴν συμφορὰν ἐδέχοντο καὶ ἐκ παραδόξου τῆς εὐεργεσίας ἀπήλαυον.
