οὐκ ἄρα δύναταί τινα ἐγκωμιάζειν ὁ ῥήτωρ. οἵ τε μὴ εἰδότες ἐφʼ οἷς ἐγκωμιαστέον ἐστὶν οὐδὲ ἐγκωμιάζειν δύνανται· οἱ δέ γε ῥήτορες οὐκ ἴσασιν ἐφʼ οἷς ἐγκωμιάζειν δεῖ, καθὼς παραστήσομεν· τοίνυν οὐδὲ ἐγκωμιάζειν δυ- νήσονται. ἐγκωμιαστέον γάρ φασιν ἀπὸ γένους τε καὶ κάλλους καὶ πλούτου καὶ πο λυτεκν ίας καὶ τῶν ἐοικότων, ἀνάπαλίν τε ψεκτέον ἀπὸ δυσγενείας καὶ δυσμιορφίας καὶ πενιχρότητος.
