ἐπεὶ καὶ ἄλλων σωμάτων ἐπʼ ἴσης ἀλλήλοις προσκρουσάντων ὅμοιος ἀποτελεῖται κτύπος, ὥσπερ καὶ μύλου περιαγομένου ἢ χειρῶν συμπαταγουσῶν, τὸν αὐτὸν τρόπον καὶ τῶν κατὰ μουσικὴν μελῶν οὐ φύσει τὰ μέν τοῖά ἐστι τὰ δέ τοῖα, ἀλλʼ ὑφʼ ἡμῶν προσδοξάζεται. τὸ αὐτὸ γοῦν μέλος τῶν μὲν ἵππων διεγερτικόν ἐστι, τῶν δὲ ἀνθρώπων ἐν θεάτροις ἀκουόντων οὐδαμῶς. καὶ τῶν ἵππων δέ τάχα οὐ διεγερτικόν ἐστιν ἀλλὰ ταρακτικόν. εἶτα κἂν τοιαῦτα ᾖ τὰ τῆς μουσικῆς μέλη,
