ὅθεν παρέντες ζητεῖν εἰ ἀνάλογόν ἐστι τοῖς πολλοῖς, σκοπῶμεν πῶς αὐτῷ χρῆται ἡ συνήθεια, πότερον ἀνάλογον ἐκείνοις ἢ κατὰ ἴδιον τύπον· καὶ ὡς ἄν ᾖ χρωμένη, οὕτω καὶ ἡμεῖς προοισόμεθα. Περιδιωκόμενοι δὴ ποικίλως οἱ γραμματικοὶ θέλουσιν ἀναστρέφειν τὴν ἀπορίαν.
