ἄν δέ καὶ ἐξετάσῃ τις, πολλῷ χείρονα τῆς τῶν ἰδιωτῶν ὑπολήψεως εὑρήσει τὰ τῶν ποιητῶν. καὶ ὁ μὲν σκηνικὸς ἀναγορευθεὶς φιλόσο- φος ἔτι μετριώτερος φαίνεται, λέγων μὴ εἰδέναι ᾧ προσ- εύχεται (Eurip. Troad. 884) ὦ γῆς ὄχημα κἀπὶ γῆς ἔχων ἕδραν, ὅστις ποτ’ εἴ οὑ, δυστόπαστος εἰσιδεῖν, Ζεύς, εἴτ’ ἀνάγκη φύσεος εἴτε νοῦς βροτῶν, προσευξάμην σέ.
