καὶ οὐ ξένον 〈εἰ〉 ὥσπερ φαιάν τινα καὶ μέλαιναν καὶ λευκὴν φωνὴν ἀπὸ τῶν πρὸς τὴν ὅρασιν αἰσθητῶν κεκλήκαμεν, ὧδε καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν πρὸς τὴν ἁφὴν ἐχρησάμεθά τισι μεταφοραῖς. ὅταν μὲν οὖν ἐπʼ ἴσης ἐκφέρηται ἡ φωνὴ καὶ ὑπὸ μίαν τάσιν, ὡς μηδένα περισπασμὸν γίνεσθαι τῆς αἰσθήσεως ἤτοι ἐπὶ τὸ βαρύ- τερον ἢ τὸ ὀξύτερον, τότε ὁ τοιοῦτος ἦχος φθόγγος κα- λεῖται, παρὸ καὶ οἱ μουσικοὶ ὑπογράφοντές φασι Ὅρος φθόγνου
