σαφέστερον δέ μᾶλλον ἔσται τὸ ἑκατέρου γέ- νους ἰδίωμα τῇ ἀπὸ τῶν πρὸς γεῦσιν ποιοτήτων μετα- βάσει χρησαμένων ἡμῶν. ὥσπερ τοίνυν τῶν γευστῶν τὰ μὲν τοιαύτην ἔχει κρᾶσιν ὥστε μονοειδῶς καὶ λείως κι- νεῖν τὴν αἴσθησιν, ὁποῖον τὸ οἰνόμελι καὶ ὑδρόμελι, τὰ δέ οὐχ ὡσαύτως οὐδὲ ὁμοίως, καθάπερ τὸ ὀξύμελι (ἑκά- τερον γὰρ τούτων τῶν μιγμάτων τὴν ἴδιον ἐντυποῖ ποιό- τητα τῇ γεύσει), οὕτω τῶν φθόγγων διάφωνοι μέν εἰσιν οἱ ἀνωμάλως τὴν ἀκοὴν καὶ διεσπασμένως κινοῦντες, σύμφωνοι δὲ οἱ ὁμαλώτεροι. ἀλλὰ γὰρ ἡ μὲν διαφορὰ τῶν φθόγγων τοιαύτη τίς ἐστι παρὰ μουσικοῖς·
