Ξενοκράτης (fr. 13 Heinze) δὲ ὁ Πλάτωνος ἀκουστὴς καὶ οἱ ἀπὸ τῆς Στοᾶς φιλόσοφοι (fr. II 294 Arn.) ἔλε- γον ῥητορικὴν ὑπάρχειν ἐπιστήμην τοῦ εὖ λέγειν, ἄλλως μὲν Ξενοκράτους τὴν ἐπιστήμην λαμβάνοντος καὶ ἀρχαι- κῷ νόμῳ, ἀντὶ τῆς τέχνης, ἄλλως δὲ τῶν Στωικῶν, ἀντὶ τοῦ βεβαίας ἔχειν καταλήψεις, ἐν σοφῷ μόνῳ φυομέ ην. τὸ δέ λέγειν ἀμφότεροι παραλαμβάνουσιν ὡς διαφέρον τοῦ διαλέγεσθαι, ἐπειδήπερ τὸ μέν ἐν συντομίᾳ κείμενον κἀν τῷ λαμβάνειν καὶ διδόναι λόγον διαλεκτικῆς ἔστιν ἱργον,
