Καὶ Πρωταγόραν δὲ τὸν Ἀβδηρίτ ην ἐγκατέλεξάν τινες τῷ χορῷ τῶν ἀναιρούντων τὸ κριτήριον φιλοσόφων, ἐπεί φησι πάσας τὰς φαντασίας καὶ τὰς δόξας ἀληθεῖς ὑπάρχειν καὶ τῶν πρός τι εἶναι τὴν ἀλήθειαν διὰ τὸ πᾶν τὸ φανὲν ἢ δόξαν τινὶ εὐθέως πρὸς ἐκεῖνον ὑπάρχειν. ἐναρχόμενος γοῦν τῶν Καταβαλλόντων ἀνεφώνησε (B 1 Diels) „πάντων χρημάτων μέτρον ἐστὶν ἄνθρωπος, τῶν μὲν ὄντων ὡς ἔστιν,
