πρὸς τούτοις ὁ χρόνος τριμερής ἐστι, καὶ τὸ μὲν ἔχει παρῳχηκὸς τὸ δὲ ἐνεστὼς τὸ δὲ μέλλον, ὧν τὸ μὲν παρῳχημένον οὐκέτι ἔστιν, τὸ δὲ μέλλον οὔπω ἔστιν, τὸ δὲ ἐνεστὼς ἤτοι ἀμερές ἐστιν ἢ μεριστόν. ἀλλʼ ἀμερές μὲν οὐκ ἂν εἴη ἐν ἀμερεῖ μὲν γὰρ οὐδὲν δύναται γίνεσθαι μεριστόν, ὥς φησι Τίμιων (fr. B 76 Diels PPF), οἷον τὸ γίνεσθαι, τὸ φθείρεσθαι. καὶ ἄλλως,
