ἐπεὶ γὰρ τῶν παρʼ Ἕλλησι λεκτῶν καὶ νοητῶν τὰ μέν ἐστιν ὑπὸ τέχναις τὰ δʼ οὔ, τῶν μέν ὑπὸ τέχναις οὐκ οἴεται τέχνην εἶναι καὶ ἕξιν τὴν γραμματικήν, οἷον ἐν μὲν μουσικῇ τῆς διὰ τεσσάρων συμφωνίας καὶ τῆς μεταβολῆς τῶν συστημάτων, ἐν δὲ μαθηματικῇ ἐκλεί- ψεως τῆς τῶν κύκλων θέσεως· τὰ δὲ αὐτὰ καὶ ἐπὶ τῶν ἄλλων νοητέον τεχνῶν οὐδενὸς γὰρ τῶν ὑπʼ αὐταῖς εἴδη- σις ἡ γραμματική, ἀλλὰ μέθοδός τίς ἐστι τῶν παρὰ ταύ- τας ἑτέρων λεκτῶν τε καὶ νοητῶν,
