πᾶν τε λεκτὸν λέγεσθαι δεῖ, ὅθεν καὶ ταύτης ἔτυχε τῆς προσηγορίας· οὐδὲν δὲ λεκτὸν λέγεται, ὡς παριστᾶσιν οἱ ἀπορητικοί· οὐκ ἄρα ἔστι τι λεκτόν. ᾧ ἕπεται μηδὲ ἀξίωμα εἶναι μηδὲν ἀληθὲς ἢ ψεῦδος. λέγειν γάρ ἐστι, καθὼς αὐτοί φασιν οἱ ἀπὸ τῆς Στοᾶς (II fr. 167 Arn.), τὸ τὴν τοῦ νοουμένου πράγματος σημαντικὴν προφέρεσθαι φωνήν, οἶον τοῦδε τοῦ στίχου (Α 1)· μῆνιν ἄειδε θεὰ Πηληιάδεω Ἀχιλῆος.
