Πολλῆς οὔσης καὶ ἀνηνύτου παρὰ τοῖς γραμματικοῖς περὶ μερῶν γραμματικῆς διαστάσεως, ἵνα μήτε τὸ πάρ- εργον ἔργου χώραν ἐπέχειν ἡμῖν φαίνηται, μήτε εἰς ἀλ- λοτρίαν καὶ ὡς πρὸς τὸ παρὸν ἀνωφελῆ ἐμβαίνοντες ὕλην ἀπολειπώμεθα τῆς ἀναγκαιοτέρας ἀντιρρήσεως, ἀπαρ- κέσει λέγειν ἀσυκοφαντητότερον ὡς ἄρα τῆς γραμματικῆς τὸ μέν ἐστιν ἱστορικὸν τὸ δὲ τεχνικὸν τὸ δὲ ἰδιαίτερον, διʼ οὖ τὰ κατὰ τοὺς ποιητὰς καὶ συγγραφεῖς μεθοδεύεται.
