φησὶν ὁ Ποσειδώνιος τὸν Πλὰτωνος Τίμα ἴον ἐξηγούμενος, ὑπὸ τῆς φωτοειδοῦς ὄψεως καταλαμβάνεται, ἡ δὲ φωνὴ ὑπὸ τῆς ἀεροειδοῦς δοὺς ἀκοῆς, οὕτω καὶ ἡ τῶν ὅλων φύσις ὑπὸ συγγενοῦς ὀφείλει κατ’ καταλαμβάνεσθαι τοῦ λόγου. ἦν δὲ ἀρχὴ τῆς τῶν ὅλων ὑποστάσεως ἀριθμός· διὸ καὶ ὁ κριτὴς τῶν πάντων λόγος οὐκ ἀμέτοχος ὢν τῆς τούτου δυνάμεως καλοῖτο ἂν ἀριθμός.
