λεκτὸν γάρ ἐστι τὸ ἀξίωμα. μήποτε δὲ καὶ εἰ καθ’ ὑπόθεσιν εἶναί τι λεκτὸν δοθείη, τὸ ἀξίωμα ἀνύπαρκτον εὑρίσκεται, συνεστηκὸς ἐκ λεκτῶν μὴ συνυπαρχόντων ἀλλήλοις. οἷον γοῦν ἐπὶ τοῦ ‘εἰ ἡμέρα ἔστι, φῶς ἔστιν', ὅτε λέγω τὸ ‘ἡμέρα ἔστιν', οὐδέπω ἔστι τὸ ‘φῶς ἔστιν', καὶ ὅτε λέγω τὸ ‘φῶς ἔστιν’, οὐκέτι ἔστι τὸ ‘ἡμέρα ἔστιν’. εἰ οὖν τὰ μὲν συγκείμενα ἔκ τινων ἀδύνατον ὑπάρχειν μὴ συνυπαρχόντων ἀλλήλοις τῶν μερῶν αὐτῶν, τὰ δὲ ἐξ ὧν σύγκειται τὸ ἀξίωμα οὐ συνυπάρχει ἀλλήλοις, οὐχ ὑπάρξει τὸ ἀξίωμα.
