Κριτοβούλῳ μὲν ἐντυχὼν παρεκάλουν πρὸς φιλοσοφίαν αὐτόν, ὃ δέ μοι δοκεῖ διανενοῆσθαι μᾶλλον ἐξορμήσεσθαι πρὸς τὰ πολιτικά. αἱρήσεται οὖν τὴν πρὸς ἐκεῖνα ἁρμόττουσαν παιδείαν καὶ τὸν ὑφηγησόμενον ἐκλέξεται τῶν ὄντων τὸν κράτιστον. σχεδὸν δὲ νῦν ἐπιδημοῦσιν οἱ δοκιμώτατοι Ἀθήνησι, καὶ πολλοὶ αὐτῶν καὶ πρὸς ἡμᾶς ἔχουσιν οἰκείως. τὰ μὲν οὖν ἐκείνου ταῦτα, τῶν δ’ ἐμῶν Ξανθίππη μὲν καὶ τὰ παιδάρια ἔρρωται, αὐτὸς δὲ ὥσπερ καὶ παρόντος σου πράττω.
