Τῷ μὲν γὰρ φάναι ἄλλον εἶναι τὸν τοῦ παντὸς ἡγεμόνα καὶ αἴτιον, ἄλλον δὲ τὸν τοῦ αἰτίου πατέρα, ἀτεχνῶς ἔδειξε τὴν ἀλήθειαν, ἐξ ἧς ἀρυσάμενος τοὺς οἰκείους διεκάλλυνε λόγους· τῷ δέ γε θεῶν αὐτὸν προσειπεῖν ἡγεμόνα, τῶν τε ὄντων καὶ τῶν μελλόντων, δυοῖν αἰνίττεται θάτερον, ἢ τῷ τῆς ἀγνοίας πάθει περιπεσεῖν τὸν φιλόσοφον, ἢ τοὺς ταύτην νοσοῦντας ὑποκρινόμενον ἀναμῖξαι τῇ ἀληθείᾳ τὸ ψεῦδος.
