Οἱ δέ γε Πυθαγόρου διάδοχοι ἐκ πέντε στοιχείων τὸ σῶμα κραθῆναι φάντες—τοῖς γὰρ τέτταρσι ξυνέταξαν τὸ αἰθέριον—ἰσαρίθμους εἶναι ἔφασαν ταύτῃ καὶ τῆς ψυχῆς τὰς δυνάμεις· καὶ ταύτας ὠνομάκασι νοῦν καὶ φρόνησιν καὶ ἐπιστήμην καὶ δόξαν καὶ αἴσθησιν.
