περὶ μὲν τούτων καὶ τῶν ταύταις ὑπεναντίων ἓξ μεσοτήτων ὑπὸ τῶν Πυθαγορικῶν καὶ ἐπὶ πλέον εἴρηται· ἡμῖν δʼ ἐξαρκεῖ κατὰ τὸν Πυθαγορικὸν λόγον συνόψεως ἕνεκα τῶν μαθηματικῶν τυπωδῶς αὐτὰ ἠθροικέναι καὶ ἐπιτομικῶς.
