ἔοικε δὲ καὶ Πλάτων κυριωτέραν ἡγεῖσθαι τὴν κατʼ ἐπίκυκλον, οὐ μὴν σφαίρας, ἀλλὰ κύκλους εἶναι τὰ φέροντα τὰ πλανώμενα, καθάπερ καὶ ἐπὶ τέλει τῆς Πολιτείας τοῖς ἐν ἀλλήλοις ἡρμοσμένοις αἰνίσσεται σφονδύλοις· χρῆται δὲ τοῖς ὀνόμασι κοινότερον, καὶ τὰς μὲν σφαίρας πολλάκις κύκλους προσαγορεύει καὶ πόλους, τοὺς ἄξονας δὲ πόλους.
