τῶν δὲ τετραγώνων ἡ μὲν γένεσις, ὡς εἶπον, ἐκ τῶν περισσῶν ἀλλήλοις ἐπισυντιθεμένων, τουτέστι τῶν ἀπὸ μονάδος δυάδι ἀλλήλων ὑπερεχόντων· ἓν γὰρ καὶ γ΄ δ΄, καὶ δ΄ καὶ ε΄ θ΄, καὶ θ΄ καὶ ζ΄ ιϛ΄, καὶ ιϛ΄ καὶ θ΄ κε΄.
